Family Ministry Resources
For a long time, I thought that quiet and home worship were impossible to do with my kids around. I found myself frustrated over the time I felt I was missing, longing for the long spaces I time I had to worship before I had kids. In the eight years I have been a parent, I have discovered that my way of worship had to change to adapt to interruptions and make space for my children to learn patterns of worship. Do you know what I have learned? The interruptions, if I am patient enough, make my worship spread throughout the day. My Bible and journal are left open to revisit throughout the day, and I find myself more reflective as I carry the Word with me to the next quiet moment. There is a unique clarity in running back to God’s Word all day rather than checking the box of quiet time once.
I hope that what you find here will encourage you to begin or grow the worship patterns in your home. As a parent or caregiver, you are the first missionary in your child’s life, and your example is so important to their mature faith. Don’t secret away the treasure of time with our Father, you might find blessing in the midst of the noise.
Joy and peace to you, sisters,
Mikah Alge
Here’s how to use the booklets:
You don’t have to choose these booklets over the other wonderful resources offered for the retreat. These family ministry books seek to consolidate all of the information from the adult teachings to the children’s teachings with some extra guidance in between.
Read ahead if you have the opportunity so that you can gather the materials you might need beforehand. This will help your quiet time be more successful and their time more memorable.
There is more than you need for one day, so come back to the exercises together over a few days. Find what works for you and make a plan to continue worshipping together.
If you have multiple children, have the older ones help with some of the activities.
There is an opportunity to bless the “reader” groups with special words. This is such a meaningful activity, so don’t miss it!
